The Interregional Workshop on exchange and cooperation for sustainable development between UNESCO and José Marti Chairs.

Taller Interregional de intercambio y cooperación entre Cátedras UNESCO y Cátedras José Martí para un desarrollo sostenible

The Cuban National Commission for UNESCO (CNCU) and the Office of the José Martí Program are pleased to convene the Interregional Workshop on exchange and cooperation for sustainable development between UNESCO and José Martí Chairs, hereinafter referred to as Interregional Workshop, to be held in the context of the 4th International Conference FOR WORLD BALANCE, that will take place on 28-31 January 2019, at the Havana Convention Center.

The purpose of this initiative is to join efforts of both Chairs´ networks in favor of UNESCO´s purposes and goals, as well as of actions to address the global challenges that adversely affect humankind. The network of José Martí Chairs, attached to the José Martí Project of International Solidarity, sponsored by UNESCO, undertakes this from humanistic viewpoint, and the network of UNESCO Chairs carries out its activities in response to the mandate of the Organization and as part of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The main topics to be discussed during this Interregional Workshop will be: sustainable development; environmental problems of the 21st century; identity, diversity, pluralism and intercultural dialogue; education for global citizenship and development; gender equality and the social emancipation of women; working experiences of the José Martí Chairs and the UNESCO Chairs, as well as promotion of cooperation between their respective networks.

We would like to draw your attention to the fact that the logistical arrangements for attending the 4th International Conference FOR WORLD BALANCE are the same of those participating in the Interregional Workshop, since the second event is part of the Scientific Program of the first (See Annex).

Lastly but not least, we would like to inform you that during the 4th International Conference FOR WORLD BALANCE, the International UNESCO/José Martí Prize will be awarded in recognition of an admirable activity in the study of the work and thinking of José Marti.
